Meredith A. Bak is the Artemis A. W. and Martha Joukowsky Postdoctoral Fellow at the Pembroke Center for Teaching and Research on Women at Brown University. She holds a Ph.D. in Film and Media Studies from the University of California, Santa Barbara. Her research interests include media archaeology, technologies of vision, archival and museum studies, and children’s media. Her current book project, Perception and Playthings: Optical Toys and the Development of Children’s Vision, focuses on pre-cinematic visual media such as movable books and optical toys like the zoetrope, thaumatrope, and stereoscope, and their role in shaping perceptual paradigms for children at the turn of the twentieth century. A second project, which concerns Augmented Reality toys, is also underway. She has also worked in museum education and taught animation, video game design, and video production. LuElla D'Amico is an Assistant Professor of English and Co-Coordinator of the Women’s and Gender Studies program at the University of the Incarnate Word in San Antonio, Texas. Her research interests include examining girlhood and girl culture in early and nineteenth-century America, and she has published numerous articles and book chapters about this topic. In 2016, she edited a collection titled Girls’ Series Fiction and American Popular Culture. IGAK Satrya Wibawa received his PhD with a dissertation exploring the diverse forms through which Indonesian cinema has portrayed child characters. He is also a lecturer at the Communication Department in the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences at Universitas Airlangga, Surabaya. His publications include a journal article "Children’s Heroism in Indonesian Cinema: The Representation of Child Heroes in Djenderal Kantjil (1958) and Jenderal Kancil (2012)" in the IM E-Journal of the National Academy of Screen and Sound, Australia, A monograph in Indonesian, titled “Anak-anak dalam Layar Garin Nugroho: Dari Eksperimentasi Visual hingga Kritik terhadap Orde Baru” (Children in Garin Nugroho’s Films: A Visual Experiment and Critiques against Indonesia’s New Order Regime), was published by the East Java Art Council in 2016. . His research interest now focuses on the intersection between trauma-memory studies, digital media, cinema, and the creative-industry. He currently lives in Surabaya.
